My last batch of hide glue is used up or thrown out so I have to make some more. What I have in mind is Frank Ford or Mario's method of cutting it up into small chunks but what I'd like to do is store them in the freezer till I need them which is only for stuff related to the top of my guitars. Is it OK to freeze hide glue or should it just be stored in the fridge. I'm thinking frozen glue may have a longer lifespan. Of the last batch I was only able to use about half before it went bad and it was a pretty small batch to start with. TIA |

I have frozen mine for a long time and it worked fine. I double bagged it then put it in an air tight tupperware container. |

Hi John It is fine to freeze hide glue, you just have to protect it from freezer burn, many guys freeze it in bottles, but if you put your cubes in freezer bags that should do the trick, I would Double bag them just to be sure. I've taken to making it fresh just lately, but it is of course a bit wasteful. I will keep it in the fridge for a working week but then I throw it out. |

Hesh Colin uses the ice cube tray to form the cubes but he then keeps them in a jar in the fridge, and disposes of any after a week or so, I don't think he freezes it. |

Fortunately I don't drink scotch. I'm a beer and brandy kinda guy. Thanks Hesh & Brock & Russel, I really didn't think there was a problem freezing it. I just don't use enough so it goes bad even in the fridge. |

John...I've used HHG that's been frozen in polyethylene bottles for as long as 9 months. Protect from freezer burn. I double bag the bottles. |
